In Wherwell

We are fortunate that within 5-10 minutes of Wherwell there are a number of relaxing things to do:

Fishing

Fishing is one of the primary reasons visitors come to stay with us. We have some of the most beautiful and varied beats in the country right on our door step. The Fisherman's Lodge looks out onto The Priory Beat, 1.5 miles of mainly double bank fishing in the village and water meadows. Upstream there is Wherwell Estate beats and fishing lake, for those who want to get their eye in before heading to the river. Downstream from Wherwell, The River Test meets the Anton where there are a number of challenging carrier tributaries downstream from Goodworth Clatford.

Walking

Wherwell is surrounded by many lovely places to walk - the views in the valley and up on the escarpment are second to none. Our favourite places include:

  • Long bridge and Chilbolton Common

  • Looking far across the valley towards Stockbridge

  • Harewood Forest, full of deer, kites and woodpeckers

  • The old railway line

  • Brandsbury marshes and the old Roman ford

  • And an amble round the village

Other possibilities

  • Black Chalk down winery, making award winning bubbles

  • Longstock farmshop and nursey, the home of John Lewis & Waitrose

  • Browsing the boutiques and delis of Stockbridge

  • Horse riding, which is very popular in this area, with several stables suitable for country hacks or arena riding
